Description

Been a while, eh?

And this one isn't even THAT recent, either.
I had forgotten to upload it though so...here it is.

I created this in Spring 2007 for my Intro to Computer Art class. We were told to create an entirely new book cover for an already existing children's book.

Of course, I'm a librarian. And I LOVE children's books, so the selection was quite extensive. But I managed to narrow it down to three.

The one I really wanted to improve upon (the art wasn't as great as the story) couldn't be found on the shelf.

The other was Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr. However, the art is appropriate so there was no need to redesign...

The last one is, as you can see, Madeline by Ludwig Bemelmans...

You know the beginning:

"In an old house in Paris that was covered with vines,
lived twelve little girls in two straight lines.
They left the house at half past nine...
the smallest one was Madeline."

To me, Madeline is fearless. Although small for her age, she's charmingly impetuous, irrepressible, mischievous, and yes, even precocious!
Her stance should clue you in on that! ^_^

Obviously, she's the focus; Miss Clavel ("Something is not right!") and the other girls are not in great detail.

But then again, neither is Madeline herself. This is due to the fact that part of this image was created in Illustrator. I was learning the program that semester and it's not very...erm...permissible when granting leeway to freely create.

That, and when I did jazz her up, my professor told me to keep it simple...:sigh:

So, there is little shading. In fact, there is more color variations/tints/blushes than actual separations of light and shadows (Note the knees and cheeks).

About the uniform...I tweaked them just a bit. I liked the bright yellow; it would show up quite clearly should the girls walk "in the rain or shine."

As for the capes, bows, and buttons...it's just my view of adorable!

Hmm..well, I can't think of anything else to comment about this. If I remember any more, I'll let you know.

Til then, enjoy! :blowkiss:

:bulletpurple: NOTE: My insignia and signature (made in Spring 2007 for my Intro to Graphic Design class) is found in the text. Please do not steal my artwork/design.

:bulletpurple: NOTE: I will try to locate and upload the completed and fully assembled Madeline book cover assignment at a later date.
