Something about the Fates must've brought me back here on this day (other than the yummy Mugen x Jin fanfics I've been reading lately)....
But here I scroll and Lo! It's deviantART's 12th year in operation. It hardly seems that long. Let's see, I graduated high school in 2006, but was a member of deviantART back in my late primary school and early middle school years. I've forgotten how long it's actually been, but I'm glad to be here TODAY.
That's for sure. To all my deviant friends who probably thought I fell off the face of the artistic planet, I haven't. I've just been lurking and willing myself to overcome my artist block and fear. I'll jump back on that horse again. I promise you that. Wait for me?
And to all the new deviants I haven't met: I prefer to wave my hello's and say my good-byes.

That time when you simultaneously savor the present yet reflect on the past is once again upon us! I truly hope you’ve found this past year to be everything you hoped it would be and that you’re enjoying the holiday season with beloved family, close friends, good food and long laughs.
For me, I’m especially enjoying the season as I’ve just recovered from brain surgery in October. As you know, I traded in my LSAT booklet for a hospital gown on the day of my 25th birthday. As they say, the rest (including the needles, anesthesia, pain, self-therapy, billing, etc) was history. :whew: All I’m grateful for is the surgery’s success, faster-than-anticipated recovery and my supportive friends, family and former coworkers. As for the New Year, my hope is that it will bring me even better health and a new career.
You’d think my birthday surprise would’ve come with an epiphany, but it didn’t. All I know is that tomorrow isn’t guaranteed so make the best of this moment, this holiday season and the year to come!

25th Birthday And Beyond

Some day in the future, someone will ask, "What did you do for your 25th birthday?" and I'll say, "Brain surgery."
It's been nearly a week since the first operation and I've two more to undergo before this month is out, but I'm trying to focus on making the most of my extended recovery period with updating my portfolio and enhancing my skill set. So that means diving back into Photoshop, Illustrator, anime/manga (Yay!), writing and web design.

Because my job required more analytic logic than creativity, I've let a lot of my artistic skills slide by the wayside. Not anymore. Thanks to a neat community-based teaching site called www.skillshare.com, I've signed up for two self-paced online classes (each for like $20) to refresh a skill (HTML and CSS) and learn a new one too (how to assemble a kick-ass online resume and portfolio to land the perfect advertising/public relations job). If you're interested in joining me as a student in these classes, let me know and I'll send you a special invite link 
Ultimately, my hope is that the operation will be a success and that I'll have my personal brand (and site) up and running by the new year! In the meantime, I definitely want to submit something here for the holidays and for snail mail purposes. Didn't you know? Holiday cards (with original artwork on the front) are a great way to stay connected to professional and personal networks 
Of course, I'll probably be out of it and sleepy for weeks after the surgery, but keep me encouraged, folks!
